Jack Tolbert founded Medix School in 1969. Medix School changed ownership in 1983 and again in 1986. In addition, in October 1988, the ownership changed to EFC Trade, Inc. and in June of 2005, Education Affiliates, Inc. purchased EFC Trade, Inc. The Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools originally accredited Medix School in 1999. In 2008, the name changed to Medix College, and the College started offering Associate of Occupational Science degree programs.
In 2011, Medix College name was changed to Fortis College.
