In 1999, Landmark Education Services, Inc. acquired Reporting Academy of Virginia (RAV); and on December 16, 1999, the RAV’s name was changed to Virginia School of Technology (VST). In addition to Court Reporting, VST’s Richmond campus offered programs in allied health fields. In October 2005, VST changed its name to Virginia Career Institute to better reflect a broader career training mission, and on June 1, 2007, Education Affiliates, Inc. acquired Virginia School of Technology, Inc., continuing to operate VCI’s main campus in Virginia Beach and its branch in Richmond, Virginia.
In 2008, VCI was relocated to accommodate program expansion, and was renamed Fortis College. In the same year, Fortis College earned approval to offer both Academic and Occupational Associate degrees in select programs, and two nursing programs, Associate Degree in Nursing and Practical Nursing, were also introduced.
In 2013, Fortis College further expanded its program selection with the introduction of Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration, the College’s first program in the skilled trades.
In 2020, Fortis College completed branch realignment and was a non-main campus of Fortis College in Dothan, Alabama, which is accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Information Schools (ABHES).
