Students will examine the role of the Sterile Processing Technician in the care, handling, and maintenance of surgical instruments. Instruction includes an overview of instrument manufacturing processes, classification by function, and inspection criteria. Students will learn to identify, test, and assemble instruments, as well as safely use common chemical solutions. The course also introduces advanced instrumentation, including powered instruments and endoscopes, with an emphasis on appropriate care and handling. Fundamental concepts of basic first aid and life support in emergency scenarios are also addressed.
